Concrete Questions, Answered
Why does concrete crack, and can you prevent it?
Concrete shrinks as it cures and moves as the ground swells and settles, so some cracking is normal. Good base preparation, steel reinforcement and well-placed joints keep cracks small, straight and out of the way. No contractor can honestly promise concrete will never crack.
Do you pour foundations?
Yes. We pour slab foundations for home additions, garages and outbuildings. Much of the Houston area sits on clay that swells and shrinks with moisture, while coastal areas like Galveston have sandier soil and flood-zone rules, so every foundation is planned for its lot and built to an engineer's design where required.
How soon can I walk or drive on new concrete?
Foot traffic comes first, and cars come later, once the concrete has gained enough strength. Curing time depends on the mix and the weather, and we tell you exactly when it is safe to walk and drive on it.
Do I need a permit for a driveway, patio or slab?
Often, yes, especially for driveways that meet the street, foundations and larger slabs. Rules differ between cities and unincorporated county areas, and some cities and HOAs limit how much of a lot can be paved. We confirm what your address requires before work starts.
How long does stamped concrete last?
Stamped concrete lasts for many years when it is sealed on a regular schedule, which keeps the color and pattern looking fresh. We tell you when and how to reseal it.
When do I choose the finish and color?
Before we pour. After the site walk, we sit down with you and choose every material and finish: thickness, finish, pattern and color. Every choice goes on a written materials list that you approve with your estimate.
How much does concrete work cost?
Cost depends on the size and thickness of the pour, the reinforcement it needs, the finish you choose, any old concrete coming out and site access. After the site walk, we price the exact work and finishes you picked and send a detailed estimate in writing. The estimate is free.
